26.01.10 Take a stand against child poverty - Sign the petition!

In the framework of the European Year 2010 against Poverty and Social Exclusion, Eurochild launched its campaign website "End Child Poverty Now!"

Till the end of the Year Eurochild seeks to gather 100,000 signatures which will then be handed over to Europe’s political decision makers.

Eurochild’s Secretary General, Jana Hainsworth, said:

“One in five children living in poverty before the crash was unacceptable - in the current economic crisis many more families and children are now at risk of poverty.”

She continued:

“Not investing in children is an affront to children’s rights today and jeopardises the future of Europe tomorrow.”

Eurochild invites especially children and young people to join the campaign as their voices and opinions are rarely heard. For that reason the campaign website is also offering a space to post a message on child poverty. It shall show that there are faces, lives and stories behind the numbers.
