European Parliament Written Declaration expected on Investing in Children
Over the years Eurochild has been cooperating with MEP Lopez Isturiz who approached us to support a Written Declaration on investing in children. A written declaration is a text of a maximum of 200 words which has to be signed by a majority of MEPs during a period of three months. It’s not binding the Parliament but it can be a powerful tool to create momentum and put pressure on the European Commission and Member States.
This is a great opportunity to reiterate some of our past messages, including calls for a national sub-targets on child poverty; a follow-up to the Investing in Children Recommendation; and a binding indicator in the social dimension of the Economic and Monetary Union.
The Written Declaration is expected to be launched on 7 September 2015. To make it a success we will all need to mobilise our contacts in the European Parliament to reach the 377 signatures!
